When I woke up this morning just before 8 am and pushed back the curtains, beautiful Snaefelljökull welcomed me in front of a bright blue sky. The strong wind of yesterday had ceased considerably and so I started my run on the path which Dominik had shown me yesterday. It was a hiking trail along the beautiful coastline, which I was able to marvel at properly when I made my stretch exercises, because the path is cluttered with large rocks which demanded all my concentration not to trip over...

An hour later I served myself at the large buffet breakfast with great views of the cliffs and the sea - what a fantastic place this is! And then (it was again almost noon) it was time to say goodbye to very charming Dominik... and I hit the roads direction south.

By 3 pm I arrived at Pingvellir, which is virtually the Icelandic Rütli (Switzerland). Translated it means assembly level and it is the most important place of Icelanders, where, for example, the proclamation of the Free State and the establishment of the Republic was held. This national park is also an UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2004. (This info I got from my Marco Polo Travel Guides).

After an one-hour stay in Pingvellir, only a few km further I visited the Strokkur Geyser which spitted out a mighty fountain every few minutes - but it was very difficult to take pictures...: (

Gullfoss

Gullfoss

As I felt a bit tired today (no wonder, until now I've driven over 4,500 km, of which only 2,500 km on Iceland in one week!), I made a short coffee break until again a few kilometers further I marveled at the gigantic Gullfoss waterfalls.

Gullfoss - Selfoss

From Gullfoss I drove back to Reykjavik, but on another scenic road. By 7 pm I reached the Selfoss and decided to find a room for the night here because I did not feel like driving another hour and looking for a room in the 'big' city hungrily and tired... Soon I spotted the hotel Fosstun (http://www.fosstun.is), which had a huge room with living and kitchen area ready for me!

At 8 pm I had dinner at the Menam Thai restaurant right next door and ate something else but always fish, though it was always delicious though, without exception! Today by the way, it was around15 centigrade and I drove for the first time here on Iceland exclusively on paved roads! : )

Guesthouse Raudsdalur, Brjanslaekur

Last night I slept well at least nine hours, so I went to breakfast well rested at 9 am. Hannes had recommended the ferry around the corner to me last night, which leaves to Stykkisholmur on the peninsula of Snæfellsnes at 12:15 pm (crossing time is only 2 1/2 hours), so I went to have information at the ticket booth, but unfortunately it was fully booked. Since I had no other choice I took the beautiful coastal road mostly on gravel...

My display showed that I had gasoline for another 200 km and the further I went the more I was like a cat on a hot tin roof because there was no gas station showing up... with the last drop I finally reached a gas station in Budardalur at 2:30 pm – it took a load from my mind! Satisfied, I had a 2 hours break at the cozy café Leifsbud thereafter where I updated my blog – that’s how much work it creates every day, but it's also just as much fun as I can see that I have about 100 visitors per day: Thanks to you all! It also paid off concerning the weather, because after I had left with 14 centigrade today this morning, it became more and more cloudy, so while I was sitting here in the warmth outside there was a cold wind blowing with 8 centigrade... When I drove on from here direction west to the Snæfellsnes peninsula, the clouds were gone in a flash and it was 14 degrees again. (Thanks for the coffee!)

At 7 pm I arrived at the Hotel Hellar in Snaeffelsbaer (http://www.hellnar.is) and this time I was lucky, because by an accounting error there was only just a room available and Dominik made me a special price as well, so I just took the opportunity! I moved into my beautiful room overlooking the Snaefelljökull and the sea, and all I was, was happy! At 8:30 pm I went to have dinner at the tasteful hotel restaurant and ordered a lobster salad and a sole - of course with a bottle of Chardonnay! Today I really treated myself!
